ANZAC Day
The significance of Silence
Silence for one or two minutes is included in ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies as a sign of respect and a time for reflection.
The reason for the period of silence is said to have originated with Edward George Honey, a Melbourne journalist and First World War veteran who was living in London in 1919. He wrote a letter to the London Evening News in which he appealed for five minutes silence, to honour the sacrifice of those who had died during the war.

BRISBANE
This year several Zone 1 members will be traveling to Morven to take part in the town’s Anzac Day March behind the unit banner and to see the additions to the nurses’ memorial.
Members attending the Anzac Day March in Brisbane will be able to join one of the other medical units attending the march. They are parade number 46 RAAMC and Health Service Corps Association. The form up point is in George Street alongside the Casino Hotel at 1025
MELBOURNE

PERTH

March steps off at 9am, so attendees should arrive at least 15 minutes before.
SYDNEY
As usual 1 Aust Fd Hosp Assn will be marching in Sydney within the Medical Corps/ Health Services, (group no. 30). Should you plan on joining us, the form up point is near the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, 27 O'Connell Street, from 0930 hours. A gathering for lunch after the march will be at approximately 1200 hrs, at the Sanctuary Hotel, 545 Kent Street Sydney.
